Vishay was founded in 1962 by Dr. Felix Zandman with funds raised from his cousin, Alfred P. Slaner, and named after Dr. Zandman's ancestral village in Lithuania in honor of family members who died in the war. The company's initial products included foil resistors and foil resistance strain gages.
By 1985, the company had grown to become a leading global manufacturer of these products and began a series of strategic acquisitions to become a manufacturer of electronic components with a wide range of products. Today, Vishay is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductor devices and passive electronic components.
Main product lines: capacitors, resistors, inductors, diodes, transistors, transformers, MOS, power supply chips.
Vishay is a global leader in diodes and rectifiers with a broad technology base and a strong position in the automotive, industrial, computing and consumer markets.
Rectifier diode (rectifier diode) a semiconductor device used to convert alternating current to direct current.
The most important characteristic of a diode is unidirectional conductivity. Rectifier diode has a clear unidirectional conductivity. Rectifier diodes can be manufactured from semiconductor materials such as germanium or silicon. Silicon rectifier diode breakdown voltage is high, reverse leakage current is small, high temperature performance is good. Usually high-voltage high-power rectifier diodes are manufactured with high-purity monocrystalline silicon (doped more easily reverse breakdown). The junction area of this device is larger, can pass a larger current (up to thousands of amps), but the operating frequency is not high, generally in the tens of kilohertz below. Rectifier diodes are mainly used for a variety of low-frequency half-wave rectifier circuits, such as the need to achieve full-wave rectifier need to be connected to a rectifier bridge.
